she should have known;

she should have known
that forever wouldn't last
as long as she had hoped.
foolish, childish dreams
girlhood fantasies
were all they were meant
to be.
betrayal brutally stabbed her hard
and she cried waves of tears
that cascaded down her pink cheeks.
she felt like a thoughtless girl
reading between the lines
that never existed at all.
so she packed her bags
and set off on a new journey
to forget about the past
and the years she wasted there.
eventually, she found joy and happiness
once again.
her broken heart and shattered soul
mended, slowly but surely.
and she was able to move on
surrounding herself with the good in life.
and never again would she experience
that painful, throbbing ache in her chest.

  1. I really like this one. I like the hope at the end, but even in the good times it's still good to remember where we came from. I feel like I can relate to it esp these lines
    "she should have known
    that forever wouldn't last
as long as she had hoped."

    Beautiful.
